Mansfield District Council is committed to ensuring that local, small to medium sized enterprises are competitive both nationally and globally, thereby creating wealth and sustainable employment for the local community. It also recognizes the importance of encouraging enterprise and fostering start-up businesses in developing a dynamic local economy.
It has therefore over the last few years established the 'Mansfield District Council Business Support Service' to help meet local business support needs through its own services and also act as a 'gateway' to support provided by other agencies. In this respect the service has been greatly assisted in helping local businesses by the finance provided by the European Community European Regional Development Fund alongside the Council's commitment.
We are a quality local business support organisation operated by commercially experienced staff providing a whole range of direct and indirect business support services within the Mansfield District.

Counselling
From our vast experience of dealing with local companies we are very aware that sometimes it is necessary for a business to obtain the services of specialists in order to undertake work on behalf of the business. This specialist help doesn't usually come cheap and is very often vital if the company is to continue to develop and grow.
In order to help, we have developed two forms of assistance, which are detailed below with examples. We hope to be able to continue with this form of assistance, however it is very dependent on available funds at the time;
We have developed a range of experienced consultants and advisers that we are able to introduce to a business where we have identified a need for some specific assistance.
This is quite often in the form of development of:
- marketing strategies
- target markets
- development of detailed businessplans
- financial management
- IT developments and much more
Examples could include:
- Development of a detailed businessplan which enabled the business to secure additional funding in order to expand and develop, creating further jobs to the local area and strengthening the business order book substantially.
- Succession management planning and internal structuring of the business.
- Waste minimisation and production process review, resulting in a sustantial saving per annum to the business concerned.
Grant Assistance
In August 1999 Mansfield was awarded 'Tier 2 Assisted Area Status' until the year 2006 and this allows relevant businesses within the district or moving to the area to apply for the following Department of Trade and Industry grants accordingly to eligibility:

In accordance with external funding streams we also have various schemes available from time to time, particluarly in the regeneration wards of the district.
