Where am I? Home News

The redevelopment of the Old Town Hall block in Mansfield’s Market Place represents a unique opportunity for office and retail end users to occupy a prestigious building in the heart of Mansfield’s commercial district.

The former Town Hall was built in 1836 to the designs of Lincoln architect William Adams Nicholson. It was designed in the Greek Revival style using local limestone. The exterior and interior survive virtually intact, justifying the building’s grade II* listed status. The building is the focal point of the Market Square, which itself has just undergone a £1.6 million rejuvenation, a grand space which replaced a much narrower mediaeval market place.

The Town Hall Block includes 1880 addition which houses some shops, and a building which was previously used as the indoor market. The closure of the indoor market has provided an ideal opportunity to redevelop the space to provide modern accommodation designed sympathetically with the Grade II* elements of the building.

Mansfield District Council has identified a development partner who has created exciting plans for a £4 million transformation to offer 5,000-sq. ft. of retail space and 20,000 sq. ft of modern office accommodation arranged across 4 floors. A planning application has been approved and the developer (Broomco Ltd of Sheffield) is currently finalising plans to start on site in autumn 2006 to enable the shops and offices to open in Summer ’07.

An artist’s impression and plans of the proposals are available.
