About Mansfield

The town of Mansfield has a population of around 75,000 people and over 350,000 people are in a half hour drive of the town centre, making Mansfield the main retail and service centre for North Nottinghamshire.

Mansfield Town Centre is home to many big name stores and distinctive local retailers both in the centre and in the Four Seasons Shopping Centre. Mansfields market status was granted in 1227 by Henry III and a market is still held 6 days a week selling a wide range of produce in the Market Square.

Entertainment is varied and vibrant in Mansfield and includes the Palace Theatre, the Odeon multi-screen cinema, ten pin bowling at Superbowl and numerous bars, take-aways and restaurants to suit every taste.  The history of Mansfield can be explored at the museum and Making It! Discovery Centre and by taking the Mansfield Heritage Tour around Mansfield, more information can be found at the Mansfield District Council website. Mansfield is historically the centre of Sherwood Forest. There is a statue in Westgate to mark this fact. 

Leisure activities in the District of Mansfield takes many forms. The district is home to 183 acres of local nature reserves, parks, farmland and attractive villages providing a balance to the urban centre of Mansfield. In and around the District of Mansfield, there are many walks taking in natural surroundings and different landscapes. There is a wide range of leisure and sports centres in and around Mansfield including Water Meadows swimming complex, which comprises of a 25 metre competition pool, a leisure pool including a wave machine and rides and also an on-site cafe.

Mansfield has alot to offer its residents and visitors, the regeneration Mansfield District Council is undertaking will build on our successes and provide further improvements to the quality of life in Mansfield.
